Minigolf was created in US in 1927. It was a brainchild of Garnet Carter from Tennesse. Its ever increasing popularity made minigolf reach Europe soon and find enthusiasts there, particularly in Sweden, England, Norway, the Netherlands and Belgium. In turn, Germans were the first in Europe to determine the sizes of minigolf positions and detailed regulations of this game. In 1955, the first ever international competition with the participation of Denmark and Sweden was held, whilst the first European Championships took place in 1963, in Dortmund.
